Scrimmage Report
I just walked through the door so haven't read any of the other posts about the scrimmage so forgive me if some of these observations have already been covered.
-Jackson McChesney has put on weight! He looks thick. Wouldn't be surprised if he put on 15 lbs or more
-There is a body type they have been recruiting for the last few years at wide reciever and it shows. Keanu Hill, Terrence Fall, Chase Roberts are all 6'3" plus and they can go up and get the ball over smaller DB's. Puka looks to the be the shortest WR in the starting rotation (they list him at 6'2"). Fall, Hill, and Roberts all had nice grabs today. Puka and Romney did not play today. Hill will be the clear WR3 on this team based on the scrimmage today IMO.
-Ben Bywater looks big. At 6'3" he has the frame to put on weight and he did so in the offseason.
-Connover looks to be coming into his own. Had some nice throws on longer routes and puts zip on the ball. He is also more mobile than average and can get out of pressure. He does have a slower delivery/release on the ball. His wind up before the throw doesn't look as compact. Had a ball or two batted down at the line of scrimmage. After Connover it's Finnigan in my mind. He made some decent throws. After Finnigan the drop off is steep. Sol-jay will probably change positions before his career is over IMHO.
-Chris Brooks looks great running the ball, good burst up the middle, he also caught the ball well. Jaren lasered one to him on the sideline and he caught it with his hands away from his body. Miles Davis also looked good didn't play much a few up the middle he hit the holes aggressively. Hinkley Ropati looked more comfortable and provides depth.
-Rehkow has a cannon for a leg. We knew that.
-Cash Peterman took all the PATs
-Same as my comment for wide reciever... BYU has been recruiting a body type at Offensive Line and it absolutely shows. The number of 6'7" 300 lbs ++ guys standing around on the sidelines was impressive. I remember years past when they didn't scrimmage because we were so thin at Oline. NOT the case this year. The freshman Peter Falaniko? looked good for how young he is. Harris LaChance has a nasty streak in him and will be hard to keep out of the rotation. Barrington, Pay, Freeland, Keim all massive. Also the transfer from Arizona State Veikoso looked like he was pretty athletic pulling on runs (he's 6'7" and 325).
-Parker Kingston also a freshman was getting on the field with second team and special teams kick return.
-Jacob Robinson nice pass break up over the middle, guy seems to be a ball hawk. They played alot of freshman and backups in the secondary today. It was hard to notice anyone in particular. Evan Johnson at DB got quite a few snaps. Dean Jones third string had a nice tackle or two.
-Didn't see George Udo at all may have missed him.
-Whatever height they list Epps at take off an inch or two.
-Carter Wheat moves really well and seems to have taken a step forward, he was chippy with a LB and they took him out. Great depth at tight end this year. Isaac Rex suited up and played some snaps. Masen Wake didn't miss any meals this summer. Hemuli's built like a tank as well, had a nice catch on a screen. Seems we will have no problem playing double tight end packages with the personnel we have there.
-Josh Singh was super active on third string d-line. Aisea Moa looks undersized for his position.
-Bodie Schoonover is extremely fast for his 6'4" frame. He blitzed a few times and looks like he has potential.
-A lot of backups at safety today. Didn't see Hanneman or Moore. Preston Rex third string had some nice tackles.
-Tough to judge the defense much 1st or 2nd string because everything was "touch" play was called dead.
-Gabe Judy played some.
