Basketball vs Football School debate. How might Big12 BBall power effect new TV
deals?

There's been a lot of debate around these parts of the back and forth between Stoops and Calipari at UK about it being a "Basketball School"

I've always heard that Basketball makes up between 20-30% of the TV value of the conference. By just about any objective measure, the Big12 is the top Basketball Conference in the nation. The ACC has some super strong brands, and then there are the BBall conferences like the Big East.

I think both Fox and ESPN will view the Big12 as being a must have for Basketball at least, as well as providing flexibly Football inventory in many timeslots. We will see what Yormark can do to play to these strengths.

I thought it would be interesting to look at total cumulative BB vs FB home attendance to see if that strongly correlated with who's really a "Basketball School." Turns out to be a pretty good metric.

Interesting that, by this metric, the new Big12 will have 7 of its 12 (future 2025) programs in the top 21, including 3 of the 4 new additions. All 4 were added mainly for their Football brand/success/fans, but they got some solid BBall programs/brands/fans as well.
