I’m going to roll my eyes at this. All shops know that someone can get a part
online and there are YouTube videos. It’s how the industry works. Why don’t you go build your own house? You can get all the parts online. You pay for something and it’s normally your time.

If the shop has a policy where they will install the part, cool. Take them up on that or find a shop that will install a part you find. The ones I know will not guarantee anything about the part.

We talk a lot about building trust is charging the right price but his business isn’t wholesaling parts. It’s about repair. He’s going to order it. It’s someone’s time and someone’s shipping costs plus a profit margin for his overhead. Plus his wages for the shop and like was mentioned, if they are busy and don’t want the work at the moment they’ll quote more.

I worked at a large equipment manufacturer and we charged a ton for dealer parts. It’s the nature of the business.
