I get playing that strategy sometimes. I get trying to not give up big plays and hope that you can get enough stops to win the game.
But when you go three or four straight possessions of letting them march down the field and get down by two or more scores it is time to completley change the strategy. That strategy can only work when you are tied or ahead. It’s not a come from behind strategy.
Once they’ve proven you can’t stop them with that defense and you are down 14+ then throw out the book and start trying out whatever you can to get a stop. I don’t care if you send all 11 guys you have to at least try SOMETHING when NOTHING you are doing is working. You have nothing to lose.
I miss watching a defense that was unpredictable and could potentially win a game by making plays.
