Does anyone view that first video and think that the scheme was sound?
We are horribly out of position when the play begins.

Oregon comes out with TE on the right, an H-back on the left, a HB on the left and twins to the left.

Yet our formation has Wilgar over the TE on the right. Pili shaded to the right (his left, what, why?) with Kaleb Hayes playing coverage behind the TE. Then the oddest thing is we have two guys pressing the WR on the left and then D'Angelo Mandell out in no man's land playing to the outside of the two WRs. Who is he supposed to be covering? Then you have Moore at FS.

First off, as a QB you know they are in a zone. Otherwise Mandell is extremely out of position.

When the pass happens Pili is 20 yards away from the receiver. The problem is that is the guy you want to make the tackle. The outside DB on the line does a great job of forcing the play in. But despite that Mandell isn't so sure that he hedges what he is going to do and stands in between going for the ball carrier (he isn't blocked) and making sure the ball carrier doesn't get to the outside. This proves critical as he is unblocked, but doesn't lay a finger on the RB.

Then Pili is running as fast as he possibly can to get there because he should be at least 2-3 yards closer. There never should have been an opportunity for the blocker to double team Tooley and get off and block someone else. Pili should already be in the hole. Instead he was misaligned to begin with and can't get there and it turns into a big gainer. Had we just had either Mandell in a more traditional position or Pili not clear on the left side of the ball it would have been stopped for little to no gain.

This is a simple play where I am not asking for the defense to blitz. But put yourself in a position to make a play. We did not. I could go over many different plays with similar deficiencies.
