one week to the next. NOT!
I know the Oregon game sucked, especially for those of us who went to the time and expense to go, and we all have a lot of questions, but consider a few examples below.
Appalachian State went to Texas A&M and beat a top 10 team (or at least a top ten TALENT team) on the road. Then needed a MIRACULOUS Hail Mary to win at home against Troy.
Air Force was averaging 45 PPG, including against a P5 opponent (who sucks but has a decent defense). Then managed only two TDs against Wyoming.
Penn State eked out a win over a Purdue team that lost to Syracuse; then later went to Auburn and destroyed them.
Texas had Alabama on the ropes; the next week they trailed UTSA by double digits and needing to come back to win.
Even Oregon itself could be accused of the same thing.
The fact is: teams don't perform to their best every single week. Are there potential longer-term concerns? Absolutely. But what happened at Oregon is one of the reasons we love College Football vs the NFL, the variety of performance from week to week; you really truly don't know what to expect. It sucked that it happened to our team but it happens to everyone. Even Bama and Georgia put out sub-par performances every now and again.
Here's hoping it was a one-off for us this year and we don't have another Boise...
