Many are saying (including me) "He could have made this decision in Spring or Fall." But I still think Holker is going into Fall Camp thinking Rex isn't really going to be in the picture for a while. he doesn't see any of the other TEs taking many catches from him, so he thinks he's the featured TE. Even if the total TE production doesn't increase from 2021, he is probably thinking he is getting the lion's share of the targets. Then Rex just starts getting more healthy and more healthy. Then he's a major contributor in the 1st 3 games.
Now, I STILL think Holker leaving during the season is lame AND unnecessary (he is a contributor, not riding the bench) but I think he thought Rex was out of the competition and now is realizing he very much is not.
