I agree with your take and don't blame him... but I also don't blame his team-

mates for feeling less than warm and fuzzy about his decision or the way he chose to handle it.

Unless the Utah/BYU ADs change things pretty dramatically, I don't think he'll have the opportunity to beat BYU as the two schools are not scheduled to play again until 2027 (unless I missed an announcement... which is entirely possible).
