We both loved it. I actually enjoyed the city a lot more than I expected to, but I don't think I'd consider bringing our kids until they're older. Not because we didn't feel safe (we never felt like we were in any trouble there, and we were out at nights)...I just don't think our younger kids would have had fun there. Most of the things that appeal to tourists (touring French quarter, cemetery tours, WWII museum, plantation tours) are geared toward adults. So I wouldn't worry about feeling safe there...I'd only question whether or not your kids will have fun. Depending on their age, of course.
