Bill Moore Esq All-American
The issue with swearing at a game isn’t really a moral one.
It’s that having to listen to grown men yell stuff throughout the game at a ref or a coach or players is obnoxious for anyone over the age of 22. Everyone knows that the refs can’t hear what you say. It’s completely performative. But like a truck that’s lifted with giant tires or a car with a really loud muffler, people who do it think they are really cool but everyone with even a modicum of decorum or taste think they’re idiots and cringe.

I’m not talking about an occasional burst of exasperation after a particular call… I’m talking more about “that guy.”

I’m all for enthusiastic cheering and booing… those add to collective noise that, combined with all the other people cheering or booing, can be heard and is fun and helpful.

I will add that when kids are around we as adults should take an extra step and keep things kid appropriate.
