a G5 conference. The 2 benefits of Indy were better TV coverage outside MWC land (which was good) and better exposure with flexibility to play during Covid. The other things going for BYU existed pre-Indy: NC, Outland, Doak Walker, QB U. BYU would draw a big away crowd irrespective of affiliation. Academic standing is the same either way. And don't try to say those big P5 wins would never have happened but for Indy. Miami and Oklahoma were pre-Indy. But I'm sure everybody was impressed with the Indy debacles vs LSU, Michigan, Wisconsin, UMass, U Conn, NIU and the 4-9 season. Yeah, those Indy acievements all really strengthened the resume. The razor thin win vs 8-5 Tennessee and victories against down USC and TX were fine but not something that turned the tide, and we probably could have scheduled those game as OOC games anyway. I'd rather be in the B12 than the MWC or Indy, but there was more than one path there. At least in a conference there woukd have still been something to play for after September other than just a no-name bowl bid.
