Once TCU and Utah were gone, there was very little point sticking around. Money
And exposure were absolutely going to be necessary in order to make it into a P5. Several of BYU’s best games in Bronco’s tenure literally nobody saw because of how terrible the distribution was.
It wouldn’t have been much better had we stayed. The MWC was willing to bend over backwards for Boise but not us. They didn’t keep any of the promises they made (even the BYU hating Trib said as much). Even now, their games are mostly relegated to FS1 and CBS Sports Network.
I get it in terms of playing for a trophy, but nobody cares that Utah State won the MWC last year. BYU wasn’t going to get the NY6 autobid over the AAC most years anyways because the AAC was a better conference.
Indy was the best of all the options available and it absolutely was a part of BYU being in the Big 12.
