I think my last update was after chemo finished in May.

She had radiation in June. It was 4 weeks, every day M-F. It was pretty tough on her, by the end she had some burns and was just really fatigued.

She's continued to get Herceptin infusions every 3 weeks, so she still has her port so they can do them more easily and quickly. She gets fatigued for a few days after each infusion, but hasn't had other symptoms.

This week, she's been having some swelling on the right side of her neck. By Wednesday it was getting worse, and she was having trouble swallowing. She talked to the oncologist, and when she described the symptoms, he told her to go to the ER immediately.

They did a CT scan there, and apparently a blood clot formed on her port (which is connected to her jugular). The clot is 8.5cm long. So they have her a prescription for a blood thinner, which will prevent the clot from getting worse while the body breaks down the clot.

She'll also need to get the port removed surgically soon, but they don't want to risk the clot breaking free so they're going to wait for it to break up.

Last night while I was at the game, she texted me that she had broken out in hives after taking the medication. Later she started having some trouble breathing, shaking, and other symptoms. It was getting worse, so she was taken to the ER and I left the game at halftime to meet her there.

So now I'm picking up the new prescription, which only one pharmacy within 25 miles seems to have in stock.

It's been an exhausting week for me, and overwhelming for my wife.

Hopefully things get better. It's been a rough ride, but at least the treatment seems to have been effective so far. We're very grateful for that.

We were hoping to go on a vacation in December, but now we think she probably can't fly due to the blood clot. We'll find out more next time we meet with the oncologist.
