Skeptical Optimist Intervention Needed
Switched from a Samsung phone to an iPhone 14 Pro Max 2 weeks ago. In all it was
a pretty seamless transition and I'm happy with the switch. The functionality and features are essentially the same, the only adjustments have mainly been around where to tap or swipe to do the same function. All of the apps that I had on my Galaxy Note are available on iPhone and all do the same things. But there are a few differences and pros/cons to note:

iPhone Pros:
- iMessage is just plain better. Samsung tried to duplicate, but really failed (they had different color texts for other Samsung users who were using the Samsung messaging app, etc., plus integration with Windows using the Microsoft Phone Link app). But iMessage is a great messaging platform - my family all has iPhones, and having blue text conversations with them is better. Message reactions, editing, and additional features are what you would expect from a messaging platform in 2022.
- Battery life is good but not terribly consistent. My longest time between charges was 52 hours, and this is when I was setting it up so it had decent use. I also had one day where after 16 hours I was under 20%, so I just charged it for the night. Right now I'm at 32 hours but the battery is down to 10%. Not sure what explains such wide discrepancies. I'm sure it won't be long until I'll have to charge it every night.
- The dynamic island thing at the top of the screen is pretty intuitive. If you are on a phone call, or are playing music, or have nav open, you can just tap that and it takes you right to that app instead of fumbling through all open apps or something.
- Wallet is pretty solid. Had my boarding pass up on my phone, and it automatically saved it to the wallet and then the boarding pass was easily available from the lock screen. Maybe there's a better way to do that on Android, but I always had to flip over to the airline app to get to the boarding pass.
- Integration with everything else is better. I got an Apple Watch 8 and Air Pods Pro 2, and setting everything up was about as simple as it gets. Not that it was hard with Samsung, but it's just a little easier and more intuitive with the iPhone to set it up and get it to do normal use-case stuff.
- Passwords are much better in iPhone. With Android, I'd have to go into my settings to search my Google passwords if I was logging into an app that wasn't on Chrome. With iPhone I can easily access my Google passwords, as well as anything that is saved in my Apple account.

iPhone Cons:
- The Apple keyboard is not as good as the stock Samsung or Google keyboard. There should be a way to always display the number row when you have a nice, big 6.7" display. Instead you have always have 2 taps to get to a number.
- Pasting between apps is odd - sometimes it prompts you to "allow" the other app to access the clip board, and sometimes it doesn't, and I haven't found a setting to change that.
- Apple watch battery life isn't great. I had a Samsung Gear watch that got 4-5 days per charge. The Apple watch is a day and a half at best right now with a brand new battery.
- Some strange UI quirks. Some screens will have a back arrow or 'X' that just don't work and I'll get stuck on a screen because of it. For example, I was viewing an item on Facebook marketplace and there was no way to get off that screen. I ended up having to back out of the app, kill it, and then restart it.
- Apple has an Android app to migrate Android to iPhone, but it didn't work. I think probably <5% of my text messages made it through the migration, and it didn't do a great job of bringing all the settings over from my Google accounts.

In all, happy with the change so far. I'm planning on getting a MacBook at some point here to fully convert to the platform. The reality is that all smartphone platforms today all pretty much do the same things, so it mostly comes down to preference and what you are used to.
