At this point it is clear the community and alumni care about Wazzu. I think there is some advantage in going for institutions that are the biggest athletic draw in the area (unlike ASU or Colorado who have to fight for attention with professional teams).

You want schools with fans that care (and by extension administration that cares)? Look at Arizona and WSU.
