These 19th century sort-of topo maps of SL and Utah counties are interesting
It is interesting to see what the local native americans (likely the Timpanogos tribe) called the various rivers.

Dry Creek: Pah-to-sho-unt-quint
American Fork River: Pah-gun-a-quint
Spanish Fork River: Pimquan

Pah, IIRC, was their word for water or river.

The Provo River was the Timpanogos River, but maybe that was name the pioneers gave it.
