I've seen people, incl. former players, suggest that practicing tackling at the FBS level is dumb. I disagree with every
fiber of my being. Oregon's tackling vs. Georgia was abysmal. Dan Lanning talked at length about how much they worked on it, dedicated significant practice time for several weeks on it. You saw the result vs. BYU, Oregon's best tackling performance of their season so far. The reason it feels like BYU's best defensive performance of the year so far was against Baylor is because of tackling. In all other areas we performed how we typically perform. But with a sample size of 5 games the tackling in the Baylor game looks like an anomaly. Practice tackling. Reward the guys that tackle well with more playing time. Sit guys that miss tackles and arm tackle. So much of the game comes down to blocking and tackling. Maybe it is dumb to practice blocking too? Of course not.
