Frankly, I don’t believe being an ex-player/coach is a top req’t for an AD today
What skills make for a great AD today? Financial, marketing, management & negotiations savvy. Even analytics. It’s definitely not Xs & Os.
When you need to hire a new head coach or interview high paid assistants you can leverage other resources to help consult with the technical component.
You need a leader who knows how to manage growth & profitability so that you can reinvest in the program.
