However, way back when In-N-Out began in SoCal
It was neither eat in nor eat out.
They had a 10 sqft box if a building where the food was prepared. People drove through and ordered by a speaker system. Picked their food up at the window and drove away. So they drove IN and they drove OUT.
The family owners have always been rather resistant to change so this pic of the first In-N-Out is pretty familiar.
