Update on seizures / spasms with our infant. Please have a prayer in your heart
for baby Ingrid.

We were worried enough about her spasms that we took her to the ER for an overnight EEG observation over the weekend. Unfortunately, it wasn't Sandifer syndrome. They detected at least one classic seizure (tonic-clonic) and one suspected spasm. Our neurologist started her on an anti-seizure med and we will start a steroid regiment today that should address any spasms. We took a brain MRI yesterday. She had already taken a genetic test for chromosomal issues and passed with flying colors, so our doc has ordered a more specific epilepsy genetic test. So we should get more resolution on an underlying cause later this week / early next.

She continues to hit all of her cognitive milestones and most of her physical milestones and hasn't regressed any--if anything, she is making progress. She is a happy, bubbly, gabby baby. So we're at least optimistic that, once under control, the seizures don't signal anything more serious or detrimental.

I've been a mess on and off these past few days, but have had some amazing spiritual experiences already. I got to bless her with my Dad on Monday--what a beautiful moment. I have witnessed and participated in healing miracles over the years, and have a strong witness of the healing power of Christ and of the priesthood. This was maybe the most powerful I've felt the love of Christ for us and especially for His little ones. I also asked my Dad to give me a blessing which, again, was powerful and calming.

And maybe the most buoying of all in this is watching my wife--she is strong, resolute, at peace, and a tender nurturer. She is full of hope and understanding and, maybe most touching of all, looked at my at a time of distress and said "[ebv], even if she does have life-long and serious issues, she will be loved and cared for and happy. And she will have a perfect body in the next life. There is nothing to worry about." I have no words for how sweet a moment that was for me and for how much I love (and lucked out in marrying) her.

In sum, we have the best of medical care, the best of parental devotion, and an unwavering faith in Christ. If you have a minute today, please join your faith to ours and say a prayer for Ingrid and her family.

Thanks in advance, CB.
