In the 7 games under Tuiaki BYU defense got 40 stops on 77 possessions. That’s a 51.9% stop rate and equals 2.72 points per drive. That’s terrible.
It got worse under Kalani taking over at the Liberty game - which includes an FCS team!!!
In the 5 games with Kalani running the Defense BYU got 25 stops on 51 possessions. For a 49% stop rate and allowed 2.90 points per drive.
If you take out the FCS game, which you should, it’s even worse! 16 stops on 37 possessions = 43% stop rate = 122 points allowed = 3.29 points per drive. That is horrendous!!!
The only FBS game he didn’t give up 3 ppd to was Boise State where he slightly beat that mark with 2.8ppd.
I’ve been on the fire tuiaki team since 2017. But I think it’s obvious that Kalani is at just as much fault here. Maybe more. He really needs to nail this new Defensive staff hire.
If you’re interested here are the stats for the entire season
Defense = 65 stops on 128 possessions = 50.7% stop rate = 358 points allowed = 2.79 points per drive.
Offense = 58 scores on 126 possessions = 46% score rate = 367 points scored = 2.91 points per drive.
