What's the worst 'foot in mouth' moment you've had on in your workplace? Mine:
- There was a colleague at a previous tech company who was a 'measure 4 times and cut once' kind of person. She just wanted to talk everything through to the most absurd and totally unnecessary level. So we get on this call once with 8-10 people to plan a large corporate tradeshow. Call is winding down. Everything has been said that needs to be said. At the very end of the call she starts talking again about wanting to revisit some previously made decision. We're talking some minor detail. I'm in my office with another colleague. He rolls his eyes when she starts talking. I thought I was muted and said 'oh man I cannot stand her. Just stop talking.' Well...as you probably guessed...I wasn't muted.

She kind of laughed and then continued with her rant. Clearly she and everyone had heard it.

I sent her an email immediately apologizing. She didn't reply. I don't think we ever spoke and I took another job 4 months later or something.

- At a previous company I would send my CEO, CFO and COO an email once a month with a marketing recap for the previous month. Pertinent dashboards, metrics, etc. It was a good way to put important data in front of them that they wouldn't see otherwise. They started to expect and really like that monthly email. Anyway, I would start every one of those emails with a 'Gents' as the greeting.

One month the CEO suggested I send the email to the extended management team as well. So I just copied and pasted and threw a few more email addresses in to send it to. Within 2 minutes there's a reply all from a very angry lady. She called me sexist, a misogynist, just lit me up. Why? Because I had forgotten to take 'Gents' out as the greeting. This lady was deeply offended that she received an email like this. I was a symbol of the patriarchy. I replied the entire story about I usually only sent it to a small group and simply forgot to change the greeting when I copied and pasted. She wasn't amused.

Anyway, those are my stories.
