I didn’t go too deep into this thread, but the general sentiment from a lot of

UVU students/alumni is probably similar to my daughter's.

Background:

She's always been a BYU fan because we raised her right (duh). She watches sports somewhat regularly- attends BYU football, basketball, volleyball games on a guest ROC pass.

When it was time to apply for schools, she didn't apply to BYU because even though she had excellent grades, solid extracurricular activities, and likely would have had solid essays, her ACT score was abysmal (even after a retake) and it's highly unlikely she would have gotten in. So she decided why put herself through the emotional stress? I think she would have been accepted had she applied during COVID and wouldn't have needed to submit her ACT score - but I'm biased and we'll never know. She loves UVU and while on her mission, we asked if she wanted to apply to transfer to BYU because we felt she'd likely get in. She got a little defensive and said, 'Why would I do that when I'm enjoying UVU and they have a good program for my major?' (Disclaimer: she gets her defensiveness from me) We've never brought it up again.

So last night, while she was at the game, I texted her towards the end and congratulated her on UVU winning two years in a row. I said, 'I'm really bummed because BYU sucks right now, but I'm happy you get to celebrate.' Then I told her it's probably best if she doesn't gloat and just gets out of the Marriott Center. She said, 'Of course. I'm happy but I'm not gonna give my friends a hard time.' (She has a lot of friends at BYU)

About 30 minutes later, she texted me a pretty long thread about how her friends were 'roasting her' for going to the equivalent of an 'elementary school'. She was taking it in stride, but I could tell it was bugging her. She said she ended up going back on her word, couldn't take the high road anymore, and just replied to them via text with: 'Hey guys. Scoreboard. Two years in a row'

(I actually thought that was pretty good)

There is absolutely a sentiment that UVU is a lesser school. And to be honest, in many areas BYU is considered better when you look at all the various metrics. But obviously the problem is the attitude and the way some BYU students and alumni treat students at UVU. It should surprise no one that a lot of them have a chip on their shoulder and will relish games like last night's.
