It’s easiest when all the star players are the hardest works. They set the tone and the rest of the team follows.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t always happen.
Example: (theoretical of course)
A star athlete gets banged up a bit so they end up skipping certain exercises or lifts etc to be as healthy as possible come game day. It quickly becomes known that you can still play without doing the same prep/workouts as the others if you are the “better” player.
The problem is that it can set a precedent throughout the team to where players skip reps/sets/excersizes during their workout and in the long run it adds up to a less strength and conditioning team overall if they aren’t careful.
The strength and conditioning coaches have to thread that needle in pushing those players as much as possible (but not to injury). Sometimes it means more upper body work because of nursing an ankle or something.
I am hoping the new coaches in this area have Kalani full support to enforce some of the issues that were maybe an issue in the past.
