Due to CB recommendations, we tried Mastra Italian Bistro and Sol Agave last
week when my wife and I visited family in Highland.

Mastra 3.5 out of 5. The meatballs look delicious, but they're pretty much swimming in a bowl of supermarket ragu. The lasagna was good, plenty of it. Other dishes tried in our group were good, but unremarkable. Some a little too spicy, but that's subjective. Very small, tight seating. Extremely nice servers. Entrees under $20. This was good enough that my normally CB mocking sister told me to ask CB for another place to eat.

Sol Agave 4 out of 5. LOTS of food. Good chips, tasty salsa and beans to start. Very colorful presentation. All seemed to be fresh (no food microwave burned to the plate on the edges). Service was efficient, not overly friendly. This is the place where your waiter basically takes your order and refills your drinks (which he did very well), different runners bring the food and have no idea who ordered what. $20 appetizers, $25-$40 average entree .

Maybe we'd go back to Sol Agave if we had a hankerin' for Mexican food. I'm not a guy that knows the difference between 'authentic' Mexican and Americanized Mexican, I just like what I like and don't like what I don't like. My dish at Sol Agave was good enough to try them again. Mastra was unremarkable Italian, seemingly available at many other places with more room.

Now you can all stop with the BMs asking me my opinion on those two places.
