So, actually their is a history of anti-mormon bias at the institution... which is why so many faithful alumni
Worked so hard to get the current president installed.

My father used to work closely with Utah admin. In his experience historically U of U had a hard time balancing the LDS nature and history of the school with modern academic pursuits and hires. So the tradeoff regularly was to get inactive mormons to run things. This was very difficult to deal with because inactive mormons were particularly sensitive to working with BYU and the church because they didn't want to come off as in the pocket of the church. Stupid things like sharing library resources.

Then Utah hired a non-mormon, and someone who didn't plan to become Mormon. A Jamaal Williams of school presidents if you will. He opened bridges to BYU and recognized there were a lot of places to build academic synergies. Then Mike Young was hired... such a mixed bag, but definitely a nod to LDS being okay... didn't go well ultimately. Now we are where we are with a very active LDS U of U President again.

So sure the institution isn't anti-LDS... now. But don't act like there is nothing to people's beliefs that yes... as an institution it was. Because actually yes, as an institution it was, for many years. Which led to many faithful alumni getting involved to curb that.
