I'll give you at least one argument
On more than one occasion I've used a teenage driver as an opportunity to own and operate an additional car that I enjoy driving.
I don't want my kids to own their own car. It leaves me with less leverage. I want to own the vehicle they use so I can easily set the parameters for its use.
Then I might as well buy a car that I like to drive, and I let them use it. Yes, it's nicer than what they need, but it serves more than one purpose.
