I expected BYU recruiting to receive a bump as soon as they were invited to the Big XII and especially in light of the positive publicity from the success of the 2020 and 2021 seasons. Didn't really happen though and then when the wheels came off in the middle part of the 2022 season I really thought BYU was in trouble. But the portal has been a huge boost for BYU and this likely would not be the case if BYU were not heading to the Big XII next year. I still think BYU's bowling prospects will hang in the balance of a few one-score games but I am encouraged by the change in the defense (I will forever be baffled by the defensive strategy and play calling under Tuiaki).
BYU needs to build around its recruiting advantages and hope for a few gems on defense. That's the way for a special season for BYU in football.
