Probably not the lone contributor, but I think a big factor. Makes it cost prohibitive for many. Creates a huge discrepancy in talent at a young age, so I think others who might develop well later on just don't engage in the sport because they see the gulf too wide; causes burnout at a young age. Makes the game not fun, etc
