This is just the way it is, due to how YM's brains have developed (or not developed) and how games are engineered (which is specifically to be highly engaging/hard to put down). Youth brains have highly developed reward centers, particularly around visual content, and underdeveloped executive functioning. In other words, games are very addictive to them, and they don't have the capacity yet to really manage that addiction like adults do.
So no, games aren't evil, but it is true to say they are, intentionally or not, specifically engineered to prey on the biological weaknesses that youth have, particularly young men.
