I support that don't go in debt to buy cars idea. This use to be taught @Church.
The basis of the advice was
#1) Don't go into debt for a new car, Especially if it is a luxury car.
#2) If you must go into debt, never take out more then a 3 year loan on the car
#3) Consider a used car before a new car. (but 3-24 months ago the used car market was so bad buying new made sense)
Note: I don't see this advice anymore, but it was definitely in the new church materials 12 years ago. (All safely gathered in, and some other stuff).
