The B1G, SEC, and Big 12 are waiting to pick that carcass apart. Let’s say GT, UVA, Duke, and UNC go to the B1G while FSU, Clemson, Miami, and VT go to the SEC. I could easily see the Big 12 welcoming NCST, WF, Louisville, and Pitt and possibly BC and Syracuse.
You have no clue whether the league will want more schools from the east or west. Maybe Utah gets preference over WF, BC, or Syracuse, but the Big 12 would take Miami, GT, VT, NCST, Louisville, and Pitt ahead of Utah if they had the chance. The whole idea the “Big 12 will always be there“ is foolish given the unpredictable and unstable nature of realignment. The ACC has a strong GOR but something outside the box could happen or in 7 years it may be more palatable to get out from given the huge increase in value to apply to the B1G, SEC, and Big 12’s next TV deal.
As Brutus told Cassius:
“ There is a tide in the affairs of men
Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;
Omitted, all the voyage of their life
Is bound in shallows and in miseries.
On such a full sea are we now afloat;
And we must take the current when it serves,
Or lose our ventures.”
