This is what always amazes me. Who are we to say when, or how, a player should
be done playing? If he wanted to keep playing and mentor and ride the bench then he can do that. If MJ wants to play for the Wizards, fine. If Tracey McGrady wants to ride the pine until he is 50 then so be it. I don't understand why we think a player has to have a 'perfect' send off in to retirement. Even if he suddenly turned in to the crappiest QB of all time with 2td/3int (he could still go to the pro bowl), what does it matter? It won't change all of the incredible things that he has accomplished.
Regarding the divorce, I highly doubt it came down to a binary decision. Either retire and save your family, or play 1 more year and lose your wife. There is always more behind the scenes than a simple decision like that. If he truly did have a simple decision, then yes it was stupid.
