Probably a little restaurant in Bayeaux, France. The 4-course meal was only €35 so I didn’t think it would be too fancyl
but it was exceptional. We came right after it opened for dinner and were the only ones in the restaurant for the first half of our meal. So the chef brought an additional two appetizers to try that he was experimenting on. Which I guess made it a 6-course dinner.

Literally everything I ordered (except maybe the chef’s-selection cheese course, which was still wonderful) ended up being unlike anything I’d ever had before. Creative and delicious.

There were two selections for each course on the menu (not including the two bonus appetizers he brought us) so my wife and I ordered opposites. So glad we did.

Just one plat example that we thought didn’t sound particularly great but we ordered anyway so we could try everything:
“Catch of the day, mashed Jerusalem artichokes, fennel, shellfish and candied lemon”
Was. Awesome.

One of the desserts was a meringue with coconut mousse and fresh grapefruit.

The balance of flavors was so impressive.

And the experience of the restaurant is so different. It’s kind of expected that you’re their guest at this table for the evening. Like I said, it was a relatively small restaurant, but the chef and waiter made it feel like we were VIPs or old friends and they were sad to see us to go.

Would have been a value at three times the price.
