Obviously we are talking subjectivity here, so I can't really say you are wrong, but here is my argument
on why it's not overrated. There is very little competition in the space of tame comedies (content wise) that are also genuinely funny/clever, and rewatchable. It's also related to an absurd "holiday" so it has tradition built in. I think it's far less overrated than A Christmas Story.
