I truly believe a lot of the Rose Bowl obsession at the U is an attempt to
maintain some kind of trump card over BYU.
The cognitive dissonance about BYU's Big 12 move is still strong, and it's been severely aggravated by the Pac-12's stability problems. Since the P5 pedestal that was supposed to give them a permanent high ground against us has proven to actually be quite temporary, there will be attempts to grasp at something else to replace it. BYU is probably a ways away from being able to win the Big 12, so the Rose Bowl is the handy lifeline for now.

Rose Bowl is not what it once was. Utes worshipping the Rose Bowl is like bragging about an NIT semi-final win.
