Pieces to acquire to create something similar on the court. The issue is BYU fans are used to at least two score from anywhere guards and a team where defense is optional as long as the shooters are on fire.
Imo he'll continue to chase length and athleticism where he can build a shut down defense while continuing to sacrifice offense.
This might not be the bad way to go. Why? Because it's much easier to adjust to the athleticism in a league that is two levels above what you're playing at if defense is your calling card. Sure you might not win a lot of games season one and two, but as the team adjusts then higher level shooters and board crashers start to show up with offers.
BYU might see two more seasons without a dance card, but if Pope can build defense first with athletic long tough conditioned players, they could play spoiler roles those first two seasons while the portal and recruiting of offensive talent catches up.
