Ohio State canceling their series with Washington got me to thinking how important some of these OOC home games may matter to those bidding on media rights for the PAC. Below are the games TV partners might be interested in. I've bolded a few that are truly "game changers" as far as TV viewership goes.
Recall that only home games matter for media rights purposes:
In a preveiw summary, there are only a handful of OOC home games that might "move the needle" for media partners in the 6 year window ('24-'29) comparable to the Big12's deal.
Arizona: None
ASU: TAMU & Florida
Cal: Florida
Colorado: Florida
Oregon: None
Oregon State: None
Stanford: None (ND series not listed as renewed as of now after 2024 season)
Utah: Arkansas and BYU (Holy War)
Washington: Michigan
WSU: None
That's fewer than 1 major needle-moving game per team over the entire 6 year period. That's really sad. I'm sure other stuff could get filled in to some of their open slots, but who will want to sign up to travel to PAC10-land, if the game is going to be put on AppleTV or be a Friday night Amazon game? If Notre Dame commits to Stanford series, that would be big for a new PAC deal, but it's not renewed as of now. Will media partners take that risk?
ARIZONA:
2024 None
2025 Kansas State
2026 None
2027 - BYU
2028 None
2029 Virginia Tech
2030 None
2031 Nebraska
2032 None
2033 Alabama
CAL:
COLORADO:
OREGON
OREGON STATE:
STANFORD (I don't see any Notre Dame games listed beyond 2024... some speculate that the series/rivalry may be ending... this would be MASSIVELY detrimental to the PAC10's potential media deal):
UTAH (Bolding BYU here due to "The Holy War"/rivalry aspect of the game.):
WASHINGTON:
Washington State:
