Wow. Lake Tulare drama.
Is there economical way to completely divert a natural lake of that size for all weather circumstances? I wouldn't think so. Obviously this is a tragedy for the families who farm there but it kind of feels like this is an inherent risk you take if you farm in a lake bed. Not educated to know enough about it but I assume you reap the benefits of rich lakebed soil to produce crops but run this risk they are seeing now.

Kind of reminds me of the people who built below the volcano Kilauea on the big Island of Hawaii and lost their homes a few years ago. They built their dream homes because the land was cheap but many couldn't even insure them because the carriers saw the risk of the active volcano. Lava flows had ruined whole towns in 1990 but it had been long enough that everyone thought it wouldn't happen to them. Sad for everyone who lost their homes but the outcome is totally foreseeable and they rolled the dice and lost.
