I remember when the line to buy concert tickets started forming on a Saturday.
Tickets were scheduled to go on sale early Monday morning.

The line started at the east entrance to the Wilkinson Center and wound around campus. It reached the sidewalk in front of the BYU President's home in the middle of the night. Someone was too noisy and woke Pres. Oaks up. He had the ticket sale staff start selling the tickets immediately. Many of the line campers were asleep in their sleeping bags. Those that were awake stayed as quiet as possible when the line started moving, so that they could quickly move up in the line.

The next morning while walking across campus to our Church meeting in the MARB, there were still dozens of people sacked out sleeping. I had my prime seating tickets so, no worries...

Later that year they started turning on the sprinklers whenever the lines got too long and they went to using keypunch cards in boxes representing the various seating sections in the MAC for basketball.

After every BB game, I obtained the counts of how many cards were put in each box. I already knew the number of seats in each section. After several games my program was able to estimate which section had the best likelihood of success for obtaining a seat. That convinced me to change my major to Computer Science. My friends and I never missed a game that year.
