They are "new money."
In England, you had the aristocracy who handed down money over the centuries. They had money because they were "better" than anyone else. Then, came the industrial revolution and financiers and industrialists started making money. They were "new money" and weren't to be accepted by the Aristocracy.

Kentucky, North Carolina, even UCLA are aristocracy. They haven't earned much lately but are still blue bloods. UConn is "new money."
