I made the midlife trip to a bike shop and saw a bike I I liked and the
Salesperson tried that crap on me.
So I just said, "oh, so this is crap, what should I get instead?" For each component and stuff he suggested. With each upsell his eyes get wider and you can see the cha-ching in his eyes. And he kept tallying up more and more until it was just under $4000. Be the end, he was trying so hard to hold back the glee.
Then, at the end, I said, "So, you wouldn't get THIS one?" (Pointing at my original $950 bike)
Bike guy "Well, I wouldnt"
Me: "yeah me neither " and I walked out the door.
Went on KSL, spent $300 and bought a bike that only kinda socks.
But it only kinda socks the 4x a year I ride it, so I thank that salesperson for saving me from myself.

Despite the obscene price, I was informed like skeptical optimist above that my bike was, in fact, a piece of crap.
