I assumed she had been dropped off by a special bus and was trying out the campus. She was ahead of me and had just stopped in the middle of sidewalk, appearing almost frozen in place. Then I looked ahead and realized that they were tearing a section of the sidewalk ahead of her and you could hear the jackhammer. I was aware of this construction and it had dropped out of my consciousness, but I imagined how it would mess up a blind person who had memorized steps or had been instructed on the path, and used a cane or something to move around. I asked her if she could use some help and she said she did in a panicky voice. She took my arm and I walked her to the front door of the Student Center where a bus was waiting. She got after the bus drive for not being there at the right time, but I assumed most of that was how upset she was at how this expedition had gone off the rails.
I was really thinking hard when I walked away from the door. I am such a visual person it seemed to be an overwhelming challenge to get around a school as a blind person. And then someone decides to park a car across the sidewalk, or ride a bike where they aren't supposed to, or to tear up the sidewalk or road (as happens every Summer in Utah).
