A Few "Approved" Football Nuggets
1. Austin Collie is currently training many of our BYU WRs - in Utah. Can't think of a more technically sound, BYU legend, to be giving back to these guys. He is training these guys well beyond the typical "run around these cones in this formation while I video you". If we are lucky, he's also teaching them what it means to "live right on and off the field" lol

2. BYU has hired a new Head Strength and Conditioning Coach. Ryan Phillis comes to the program from Louisville. Prior to Louisville, he served in a similar role at UVA and Mississippi State. Played at Indiana in the Big 10.

"Ryan Phillis joined the Cavalier football strength and conditioning staff in June 2018 as an assistant strength and conditioning coach under Shawn Griswold, UVA’s director of football development and performance.Phillis comes to Charlottesville after spending two years as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Mississippi State. During his time at Mississippi State, Phillis was part of a staff that helped the Bulldog football program win the Taxslayer Bowl over Louisville in 2017 and the St. Petersburg Bowl over Miami (Ohio) in 2016.

Prior to MSU, Phillis coached and played football (defensive end) at Indiana. A native of Boardman, Ohio, Phillis started the final 28 games of his career, including every contest as a junior and senior. As a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, Phillis graduated with a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications with an emphasis in exercise science in December of 2014.On the football field Phillis finished his career with 80 tackles, 39 sold, four sacks (22 yards) and 6.5 tackles for loss (29) in 36 career games. Phillis earned a Big Ten Player of the Week nod in 2012 and was team Defensive MVP for the 2013 Purdue game."

3. Expect some new and updated of current NIL relationships to be announced prior to the start of the 2023 season. Despite the hit piece from the Trib over the weekend, Built will be very much in the mix. From the start, the Built relationship gave BYU the ability to secure much higher profile walkons. Look at the level of walk ons that are currently joining the team while forgoing scholarships at other schools. We wouldn't have walkons legitimately competing at WR, Safety, Special Teams, etc. if it wasn't for Built. Those are the facts. "Anonymous players" taking shots at Built is the by product of scholarship players being disappointed by the growing gap between the "have's" and the "have nots" (I also suspect that the number of anonymous was exaggerated by the Trib). The reality is when it comes to NIL, 10% of the players at BYU are getting 90% of the NIL $ (outside of Built). It's very similar throughout the country in the big 5 conferences. NIL is a top 10% payday.
