I need to buy Euros and Pounds for a trip next month

Is there a seasonal, monthly, and/or weekly pattern to the exchange rate that might dictate to buy now vs wait a few weeks and buy later?

Would you suggest getting what I think I need at a US bank before I go, or wait until I get there and buy from a bank there? I already learned the lesson not to buy from the Airport exchange places.

My suggestion is to exchange a little in the airport, but you get better exchange rates most of the time through ATMs.

Yes, we plan to use credit cards mostly, but want to have cash on hand for tips,

Trying to time the market is always a fool's errand. That includes currency exchanges.

Why do you need cash? I almost never get foreign currency. Maybe a little. But use the CC as much as you can.
