I kind of buy this as smoke, because if a spokesperson is saying it's just a routine meeting for the Chancellor and the Athletic Director to discuss all aspects of the department and its programs what they mean is something is important enough to schedule a last-second meeting for the Chancellor and the Athletic Director to discuss all aspects of the department and its programs.
Why is it routine? Do they really have these meetings very often? Probably not.
Do they routinely schedule these meetings with one day's notice? No.
But the spokesperson needs to say something, so they say "it's just a routine meeting" and that sounds good.
Now I'll take off my tinfoil hat.
