Start at 26:46 (audio is choppy at the start but it’s a great convo)
A few highlights:
- Coaches can’t help themselves. They’re competitive. Job for most is year to year. They’ll step on their own mother to get good players.
- Kids who have never had money and weren’t recruited suddenly have P5 programs wanting them.
- There is no one to legislate. NCAA has given up.
- One coach that has a player leave was mad…and then realized he had left a previous job and a bunch of guys he recruited and committed to, because he got more money and a better opportunity. Realized it would be hypocritical to be mad.
- One coach said his most talented player had been contacted by other coaches directly (against the rules) and portal wasn’t open and thus the kid wasn’t in it (against the rules). Coaches are just being brazen and blatant and don’t care about the rules because no one has teeth to discipline them and everyone is doing it. Coaches are just openly recruiting other teams players and even hosting meet and greets for them. Like imagine Harbaugh coming to Provo and hosting a Michigan dinner at Los Hermanos for 5 BYU players he invites. That’s happening around the country.
- Said only 20% of NIL deals actually end up happening. Seems like the next thing we will see are lawsuits about NiL deals guys were promised.
- Won’t get better. Will get more chaotic.
