I know this may be obvious to many on CB, but don’t ever, ever EVER fly Frontier Airlines. My family of 6 (5 ticketed passengers, 4 kids ages 1-9) was on our final connection home to SLC out of DEN, but we were denied boarding at the gate unless we paid $495 in on-the-spot bag fees.
We had flown 2 of our previous 3 legs of the round-trip with Frontier (trying to save a buck), and had no issues with our bag sizes before. We had purchased bags that specifically fit the personal-item size listed in their website, and gate agents in previous airports had even made us test them in the sizing box before letting us board.
In Denver, the gate agents tried to claim our bags didn’t fit. In fairness, the wheel stuck out the top of the box about 1/4 of an inch. So they pulled us from the boarding line, waited until everyone else had boarded, and then tried to slap us with a $495 fee. We tried to argue that we knew the bags fit under the seat since we’d been flying Frontier the whole trip, but they said that didn’t matter, and closed the boarding door on us.
The “Customer Service” desk offered to rebook us for the next day, for a $99 change fee per passenger plus paying for our bags. So an extra $1000 for our family to take our final connecting flight home, plus hotel/food etc. We rented a Tahoe for $150 and drove, cost us about $100 in gas.
I had a serious talk with my kids. I don’t care what it costs, my children, and my children’s children, and all my posterity on through eternity, will never EVER fly Frontier. It will be a disinheritable offense. May that airline burn in a fiery furnace for all eternity.
