This was the best paragraph in the article IMO, and a good point
Maybe the elected officials were entertaining themselves with the tale of the Miami Marlins, who play in a tourist destination! Built a state-of-the-art stadium! With a retractable roof! With taxpayer dollars! Maybe they noticed that in the 11 seasons after the Marlins opened their lavish ballpark, the team that won the World Series in this century has not finished better than 27th in attendance and usually has finished below the A’s, whose fans were denigrated by the paid poodles that presented on the behalf of the team. Maybe the officials noted that the cost to Miami taxpayers has skyrocketed to $2.6 billion over the life of the county-issued bonds.
