We have to give Coach Hill credit this season and especially the last 2 games
The defense on paper was never supposed to be competitive against Big 12 competition. The offense's problems also put the defense in a bad position much of the season.
The strength of the defense were the cornerbacks who were 2 FCS transfers. The safeties were by committee after injuries and relied on walk ons much of the season.
The #1 linebacker who will likely eventually get drafted went down with injury. There is a lot to work on with the linebacker group, but I think this (the talent level) is already competitive with the conference.
The defensive line again was patchwork and they improved.
Coach Hill did the best he could with the group he got. With some injection of talent, I expect the defense under his leadership will become the strength of the team. I'm excited to see how he does going forward.
Now we just need to upgrade the offensive coaches...
